Movie of the Week - The Book of Eli

Hey Alligators

So Iv been trying to think of a good way of increasing my blog entries, and Iv decided that since I watch an average of 15 - 20 movies a week (the first step to recovery of an addiction is acceptance so im on the right track lol), usually at least one of which at the theatre, then a weekly movie review would be a good idea.

This weeks movie is The Book of Eli. I saw this opening night last friday, and going into it I had mixed expectations. Visually, I thought the film looked pretty sweet, as Im a big fan of appocalypse movies, and its always cool to see the way the earth looks after a nuclear war. It also looked like it had the potential of having some great action, as well as good acting from both Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman, as well as Mila Kunis who has recently been doing a lot of movies and I think she's pretty good, not to mention smokin hot. As far as the story goes, I really didnt know what to think. All the trailer really gave you was that Denzel was protecting this book for some reason, and that Gary Oldman wanted it, so i really didnt know what the book was or what its purpose was. Despite being opening night, the theatre was only about half to 3/4 full (where as Avitar 3D was sold out for the fourth week in a row).

Despite the decaying, depressing and hopless look of the movie, it was actually an increadibly "feel-good" movie, even more so then Avatar. When I left the theatre, I was kind of in awe to how powerful a message it had, and how well it delivered it. As I had predicted, the looks, acting, and action in the film were all terific. Pretty much the entire US has been reduced to a desert wasteland, and it look really great. Its hard to tell where the set ends and were the CG begins, which always a good accomplishment. Denzel Washington is BAD-ASS in this movie. He litteraly takes no shit from anyone. He's very calm, and minds his own buisness, but if you mess with him, he will FUCK YOU UP! He carries this sweet looking machete that he uses multiple times to defend himself, and he aslo carries a few guns that he uses in a couple good gunfights. Gary Oldman also played a great character. He's one of those characters that kinda plays on both sides of good and bad. He runs a small city as kind of a dictator, and can be ruthless if he is disobeyed, but all of his intentions are technically for the greater good, and you find it hard to really hate him. I'm not gonna talk too much about the story because I dont want to give to much away, but I will say its extremely interesting, and will keep you interested the whole way through. There's also a couple of good twists at the end, which are always good. All in all I think it was a great movie, and almost worth seeing again. It's got a really powerfull message that you wouldnt expect from this kind of movie, but also manages to blend it into an entertaining epic. I definatly recomend seeing it, and I'm giving it a 4.5 / 5 stars.

There doesnt seem to be anything overly good coming out this week, so I'll probably wait until next week when that Mel Gibson movie, The Edge of Darkness, comes out, cause that looks awesome. The only thing better then a BAD-ASS Denzel washington, is a BAD-ASS Mel Gibson! However, I'v been downloading movies like mad, so I should be able to find something good for next week!

Until then
Later Alligators!

PS Here's a trailor of The Book of Eli incase you havnt seen it yet:
