Movie of the Week - A Few Good Men

Unlike many of todays movie goers, I firmly beleive that Tom Cruise is one of the best actors out there. All you have to do is simply watch one of his dozens of movies to know that this guy can act. Todays media being the way it is, word spreads pretty quickly about actors and their personal lives, and how they live them, and many people are blinded by Tom Cruises public actions, giving him an unfair rep as an actor. Being a devout scientoligist and jumping histaricaly on Opra's couch screaming "I love Katie Holmes", despite being very weird and even slightly comical, really has nothing to do with how he acts on the big screen. For all of you that say he's nothing but a nut job wacko that couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag, I object, because the fact is, "you can't handle the truth!"

I give you exibit a, A Few Good Men (1992). This courtroom drama, which happens to have an all star cast including Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon, and small roles by Keifer Sutherland and Cuba Gooding Jr., is a movie not only with a great story; it's a movie with tremendous acting. The film revolves around the trial of two US Marines charged with the murder of a fellow Marine, and how Cruise prepares a case to defend his clients. There's literally no action or suspense in this movie what-so-ever, however you are compelled to keep your eyes glued to the screen as Cruise wins you over with his witty and briliant personality. Jack Nicholson plays the "bad guy" for lack of a better word, however I won't explain that so as not to spoil any of the movie. The story is kind of this emotional rollercoaster ride that Cruise takes you on as he is forced to consider his values and what he beleives in through out the course of the case. Despite being an interesting story, the movie truly would have failed without the great performances of Cruise, Nicholson, Bacon, and even Moore. Its a movie that really just makes you feel good inside, and appreciate what it takes to be a lawer. I give the flim a 4/5 and strongly recomend seeing it if you havn't already. Here's the trailer:

After seeing this movie I can gaurantee that whatever beef you have with Tom Cruise, you'll put behind you when you watch his movies. This is just one of many of his great performances. He's an excellent action star in films such as the Mission Impossibles, Minority Report and The Last Samurai. He plays smart believeable lawer s in both The Frim, and A Few Good Men. And he is a terrific character actor in films such as Rain Man, Jerry Maguire, and my probably one of my favorite performances ever by him Tropic Thunder. He's coming out in a new movie this summer with Cameron Diaz called Knight and Day, which looks awesome! Heres the trailer:

Well that's all until next week!
